The holy Dugald Shatterhead of Cryptsong Island
The young Dugald, son of Brannigan Ironfist Duke of Grey Tide Island (Grauflutinsel) on the coast between the Hohld and Corpsdale, was interested in many things: writing, knowledge and diplomacy, but not the art of war his father tried to push on him.
The fiefdom was insignificant and poor and the ducal house had little to say in the happenings of the time. With favours, promises, insignificant threats and intrigues Brannigan managed to get a few Linesti to take an oath to educate his son.
But since Dugald was more devoted to the scriptures than to the sword, the apprenticeship went slowly and no progress was noticeable with the young Ironfist. As the time of the War of the Hohld began and the Hohld swept like a wave of blood and ruin over the Grey Tide Island and almost the entire neighbouring Corpsedale, Dugald had to realize with horror that words alone could not save his people, his family and all that was dear to him.
Now he readily learned the fighting techniques of the Linesti and when Garrik of Corpsdale called to arms under the banner of Ignis, Dugald followed and with the help of Corpsdale's men he liberated the Grey Tide Island and carried the war to the Hohld.
When the savages were defeated, their clan leaders buried alive and the fog of war had lifted, his home was a tomb.
Through martial arts he had earned the name Shatterhead and was appointed as the new Lord of Grey Tide Island by Garrik of Corpsdale.
Sir Dugald Shatterhead was created and his home was now called Cryptsong Island because that was all the island had become.
A single tomb in which the wind sang its sad song in its ruins and unmarked tombstones, if it had been poor and insignificant before, it was now completely devastated, for the entire population and economy of the island had been destroyed.
But one thing remained for the nobleman of Cryptsong, the art of swordsmanship. His sword was feared and there was no one who could beat him with a weapon. When the Undeath was created, Dugald gave himself voluntarily to the Undeath and swore the Bone Queen the endless loyalty of his soul.
He swore allegiance to King Garvan and he vowed to enforce justice which he carried out ruthlessly and without mercy. He even sacrificed his wife to the Bone Queen when she expressed doubts about the magnificence of the soul-coloured mistress.
The son who was the fruit of her heretical womb shared her mother's fate.
In countless tournaments Dugald achieved victory and amassed a small fortune by selling the equipment of his higher ranking combatants and the promise to assist him in battle should he need it from all his equals, the Loyals.
The time dawned when the great war between all the elements began and the Undeath prepared to storm the white city. Sir Dugald was the first to take up arms, and bound by their word, the others followed suit.
To increase the glory of the Mistress he marched with the nobles before the main army and in the middle of the white city they fought against the Naldar who defended the city. With their followers they fought their way deep into the heart of the white city. Dozens of Naldar fell victim to the blades of the Loyalists, and mostly in their bodies, the Loyalists rose again.
But the enemy was strong and the resistance relentless so that Dugald finally asked the other Loyals to keep the brotherhood of the Loyals alive and to pass on the information gained about the city and its defense to the main force while he alone secured their retreat.
They had barricaded themselves in the ruins of a house when Dugald proudly walked into the city.
Dead silence lay over the ruins as the Loyal of Cryptsong Island shouted „I am Sir Dugald Shatterhead of Cryptsong Island and Loyal of Corpsdale. Those who wish to reap glory may stand against me in battle. I will not hide from my enemies.“
Even when Rakasha could no longer maintain his body, he continued to stand and full of holy anger, inspired by his faith in the soul-colored Mistress and his goal in mind, he continued to fight. The scriptoners tugged at his soul but still he drew everybody's attention to him.
He defended the retreat of his brothers and took arrows and hits with sword or lance one after the other. The Loyalists of Corpsdale had left the city and delivered the message when the body of Dugald finally gave up and the scriptors took the soul of the holy righteous one with them. Through Dugald's sacrifice, the Undead Flesh gained a great victory for the Bone Queen and King Garvan, and in return the Ecclesius Maximus declared Sir Dugald Shatterhead, Loyal Of Cryptsong Island the Righteous to be a saint.
His soul guards the knighthood, guides the weapons of the Loyalists with his power and protects them with his steadfastness his faith, he judges the fallen and the justice of the undead kingdom is on his lips. In honour of St. Dugald, the Loyals of Corpsedale still fight united as one banner in battle. Nobody is their captain because they are only united by the will of the queen, the king, their Laird or the voice of Dugald.
