On the Myth of Creation

Text fragments from various sources, various manuscripts, collected by [name redacted]

Is there something?

can something

Be?

The question alone demands

There must be something

To be! And it is.

Four are. Forever in the moment.

No before, no after.

Being just separated,

What is to become, now?

Become! And it will

They wish, desire, want to eradicate themselves now.

But the will is free, free not to do this either.

A dream of the place where there is more than just one,

Dreamed by the four, small at first but growing!

There it was. Here it is.

You, all comes from you,

Be being and be meaning.

Oh, souls of change,

Oh, Kral Urien!

(Song fragments copied from the stone tablets in the Mountain of the Akata)

… the actual shaping of Mitraspera, if you want to call it like this, was not done by the timeless original currents of the Kral Urien, even though the entire material as well as the immaterial world consists of them, but by specially created beings: The “Quihen Assil”, also called “the Eternals” or “Children of the World”. They were the first beings with personality, who ordered the spheres and energy flows, separated land and sea, brought air and light, and are also considered the creators of all other living beings, large and small. Each of these four elements created a race of Quihen Assil and all together they created another being that contained all the Elements at once. This was the birth of Magica …

The names of the families, whose individuals are literally “as countless as the stars”, have been handed down to us: Terra’s Quihen Assil are called “Emerald Singers”, “Crystal Lords” those of Aeris; those of Ignis “Scarlet Jademasters”, “Lords of the Deep” those of Aqua and “Children of the Golden Dream” are those who form Magica.

[End of note]

… These five peoples formed Mitraspera and, as their final work, also created those cognizant beings who would later be known as the “Ancient Rulers”. In their works, the Quihen Assil always proceeded together, wars or battles were unknown to them. The spirit of the Quihen Assil, their way of thinking, probably no mortal can ever understand.

When the work of creation was done and the then still young people of the Ancient Rulers populated the land, the Eternal Ones initially still lived among them and were worshipped as gods. From them the Rulers learned their first cultural skills, but above all the ways of the Elements and their intended position in the world.

Some time passed and the culture of the Rulers became more self-reliant. The Quihen Assil felt that their presence was limiting their children more than supporting them. So, they left the mortal plane and retreated to distant positions of observation.

… the Emerald Singers retreated to their round, radiant white fortress which wanders across the sky at night, the Crystal Lords, unable to rest, travelled through the highest reaches of the atmosphere, the Scarlet Jademasters went into the radiant eye which gives light and warmth to the world by day, the Lords of the Deep dived into immeasurable abysses beneath the waves. Finally, the Children of the Golden Dream disappeared into the depths of space, where, as glittering points of light at night, they make those who look up to the sky dream so ominously…

(end of note)

But after their departure, the Quihen Assil were worshipped in special places, some individually, elsewhere their whole kin, in some places all of them together. The worship of the Eternal Ones must have been the primary way of invoking the Elements in ancient times. Today, the “Temple of the Golden Chariot” in As’Shan and the “Temple of the Silver Chariot” near Doerchgard are known as high sanctuaries of the Quihen Assil. The Eternals influenced the destinies of the Rulers from afar many, many times – and still do so till today. Only once, however, dod some of the Quihen Assil return to the world in flesh as a last resort, they brought the World Fire, since otherwise the Forsaken would have probably devoured this world.

A chapter of the Eternal Ones that is as mysterious as it is dark is the fall of “Quin-Khal” and “Quin-Ti-Lucki”. Once, int the Age of Rulers, two stars crashed to the earth and thus the two Children of the Golden Dream who formed them died as a result. Their bodies solidified into crystal and can be found until this day. The dust of Quin-Khal was mined by the Ancient Rulers and used to build the seals because it blinds the Elements and the living Quihen Assil cannot see through it, while the crystal of Quin-Ti-Lucki drives away the Forsaken and destroys their Essence. Why two of the Quihen Assil had to fall and die is probably one of the greatest mysteries of this world…
