On the Creation of the Forsaken
Questions asked by an unknown disciple to an unknown master
Is this creation finite?
“Yes” and “No”, says the wise man.
“No” meaning that it was obviously possible in the past to add new forces, even elements, to the world.
“Yes” meaning that these new Creations have not increased the total amount of all that makes up Mitraspera.
This is the very heart of the battle for this world, in a sense only the distanced eyes of the Enlightened will see, a view only a few mortals will ever be able to achieve.
The powers we know as the Forsaken today, they are only the greatest of unnumerable new ideas which surfaced during the time of the Ancient Rulers, and which went beyond what had constituted the Creation before.
So basically, all Forsaken are the same?
At this point the commonalities between the Forsaken already end, as fundamentally similar they all are. Every Forsaken element is different in structure, origin and their (un)nature from each other. Only this one part unites them all: the source of the idea.
At the peak of the Ancient Rulers culture, they recognised the source of the Creation and their own limitations. But the will to overcome these was inherent in them, for their souls themselves were once descended from that the power at which source everything began…
But what might this source be?
The Ancient Rulers called this overcoming of the limits set by the world for the sake of new things themselves “the Ratio” and those who flooded the world with their ideas called themselves “Primordial Sceptics”. While these spend their time thinking of and devising new things, it was others who finally put these ideas into practice; in one way or another outwitting the limitations of the world’s order and creating something entirely new. They did this for different reasons, be it fear of death, curiosity, megalomania, the hope for a better future, arrogance or out of sheer desperation; each one acted individually and uniquely, some base, some noble in spirit. The result were new aspects in this world. The question what the true nature of this tremendous power is which may have ignited the spirits of the rulers, which enabled them to think higher than even the stars and deeper than the foundations of the earth… this question is perhaps the greatest mystery of this world.
The question remains: what turns a crude idea or an insane invention into an Element, or at least a force that can challenge the true Elements?
The answer is obvious to the enlightened mind: the very fabric of which the world is made of – this word is now meant to include forces, energies, and space itself – is limited, and cannot be recreated, but can be altered and redistributed. Here there seems to be some underlying laws of the world. Laws of “symmetry” or “balance”:
Through the creation of new powers, a new balance has arisen in the world, not only among the Sacred Elements, but also between these and the Second Creation, since these are no longer part of the First Elements, but of the world as a whole. Following this we may also draw the conclusion that the four new ideas, which we now as the great Forsaken, only became these great Forsaken because they were directly opposing the four great Sacred Elements.
But as more substance and aspects of the world flowed into the new Creations, less and less remained for the old ones. No one knows how many ideas of the Rulers still exist, but after never attaining real power, now have been all but forgotten.
Did the Creators of the Forsaken know about this? Did they consign their world to decay deliberately?
When some of them understood what they had done and realized the true danger of new “Creations”, they acted in an unprecedented moment of unity; allied themselves across all boundaries of customs and opinions in a pact called the Pact of the Nine and sealed away the Ratio. Thus, the flood of ideas ended, but the new forces that had already been called into this world grew and soon another danger within them revealed itself: while, despite their eternal conflicts, antagonisms and struggles, the Sacred Elements maintained themselves and formed a stable and viable world in harmony with each other, the Forsaken were in themselves self-contradictory, disunited and destroyed without creating anything new in return. At some point they devoured their creators and from this rushed over the world like a flood in order to destroy it completely. The Ratio may have been defeated, but its seed, the Forsaken, triumphed and only the intervention of the Quihen Assil, the world-builders of the Sacred Elements, could put a stop to their activities. This was called the “world fire”.
But then why do the Forsaken still exist?
Why they were not destroyed, and what will happen if the Ratio is set free again, only time can tell. Who can say what happens when the created become creators and creators fall silent before the work of the created…?
Does it have to be like this?
Ah, everything only happens once, you know, but everything will happen sooner or later…
